Who is Steve Davis? I'm glad you asked!

I'm a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner who helps couples nearing retirement avoid common money mistakes and retire with confidence.

As the second generation owner of Davis Financial, I have been helping clients for more than 25-years. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is seeing clients -- including my own father -- confidently transition into retirement. It has always been important to both my father and me that we provide independent and objective investment, insurance and financial advice.  It's for this reason that I have chosen to partner with LPL Financial, the largest independent brokerage firm in the country* due to its objective research and open architecture investment platforms.

Outside of work, I sit on the board of several charities and often spend time volunteering with the local Chamber of Commerce, serving at my local church and fundraising for cancer research and treatment.  I'm an avid cyclist and a long-time participant in the Pan Mass Challenge.  My wife Sandy and I have four boys, three of whom are out of the house (away at college, or already in the workforce) so you might say we're practicing to be empty- nesters.

If you would like to explore working with me, please give me a call.  You can reach me directly at 508 337-9400.

PS.  If you're interested in learning more about my career, here’ are a few more details:

My early career as a Banker

After graduating from Bentley College in 1985, I spent the first five years of my career as a banker, making commercial loans to small family-owned businesses. This was very enjoyable work and it gave me the opportunity to interact with many successful businesses and business owners.  Always excited to meet new people and having a real interest in finance, this was a nice fit for me. My only frustration was that the lending business was somewhat transactional in nature making it difficult to develop long-term relationships with clients. During the late 80s, banks were experiencing rounds of consolidation after the real estate market burst and I was laid off when my wife Sandy was expecting our first child. It was time to do some soul searching.

Working with my Dad

Growing up, I looked up to my father who owned a successful financial planning business, and I often imagined working with him. After graduation from college, however, I chose not to join him in business because I wanted to know that I could “make it on my own”. The timing was now right, and in January of 1990, I was hired by my dad and we began to work together. This was a magical time for me.  He continued to serve his individual clientele and I began to focus on developing a retirement plan division within our company. As my dad neared retirement, we used to explain to his clients that he had the “wisdom” of experience and I offered the “continuity” of youth.  In my desire to develop some wisdom of my own, and to assist our clients in all areas of planning, I became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ practitioner in July of 1995. My dad and I made a great team and now that he has been retired for several years, I can truly say that it has been a pleasure for me to continue working with so many of his trusted friends and clients.

Work and Family

The Davis Family on the "snow couch" after a snow storm in 2011

Shortly after my dad’s retirement, I made the strategic decision to move my office from Needham to Mansfield. Sandy and I have a wonderful family of four boys and it didn’t make much sense to commute more than two hours per day when through the beauty of technology, I can easily and effectively work from my home office.  If you're interested in meeting with me, I'm pleased to travel to your office or home.  And of course, you are welcome to meet with me here in Mansfield.  My office is separate from the living areas of the home and affords great privacy and confidentiality.
